The Last Week

(Jacksonville FL)
My last week in Jacksonville was an eventful one. The car was sold just three days before my retirement date allowing me to continue using it for commuting to work. One of the final links to break from the work-a-day life. My Lazy Daze motorhome went to the mechanic for a thorough check-up before hitting the road. It received an oil and filter change and some grease, but otherwise was declared to be in great shape. The tires were also inspected and aired-up to the proper level. I received some parts ordered from the mothership to complete some minor fixes; all of which had to wait because it rained every day after work hours. And, friends were visited for the last time. On the day before retirement the area was soaked from Tropical Storm Andrea.

Friday, June 7 was my last day of work, and the sun finally prevailed. I completed one last project and had my exit interview with HR. My co-workers surprised me with a retirement party, gifts and wished me well. I really enjoyed working with those folks and will miss them. When I left for the last time, I drove Tardis out of the parking lot and began my plein air journey.

It’s a really strange feeling ……leaving a workplace for the very last time, isn’t it?

I’m so happy for you and your wife, setting out on a new journey. I can’t wait to see your new art.

Hi Sara: Yes, it did. But, I was intent on making my first camp before too late. So, I wasn’t thinking too much about it at the time. It’s the weekend and I’m normally off. I suspect on Monday it will feel a lot different realizing I don’t have to go anywhere.

Nice to hear from you Dragonfly. Glad you are still following my adventures. I too can’t wait to get into the groove of painting again. I’m switching to acrylics from oils, so it may take a while to create something I want to share. Hope you too get the chance to travel. BTW I’m a solo RVer.

Surprised you won’t be towing a car – sightseeing in the RV can be awkward and expensive.

Hi Dick: My rig is less than 24 feet, so it drives like a big van, and parks most anywhere. I won’t be doing much sightseeing anyway. Might get a scooter for running around later.

Plienguy, it is great to read how your plans have come together. I’m looking forward to reading about your adventures in this next phase of your life. I’m sure you’ll find lots of inspiration for your art while wandering. When you make it to Prince Edward Island, Canada, know you have a driveway with a waterview waiting for you. Lots of scenic inspiration here waiting for you! — Regards, Ross

Wow Ross! What a great invite for when I’m up that way. I’m sure it’s a wonderful painting spot. Glad to have you following along on my travels.

I think you should consider a trans-Canada trip, ending in PEI. Have always wanted to go

Worth considering. Thanks for the suggestion.
