The Office

This is one of several posts I’m doing to highlight how livable my RV rig Tardis is for such a small motorhome. I’m very pleased with the quality and thoughtful features designed into this 23.5 ft. Lazy Daze Twin-King model.

The Office is in one corner of the lounge, making use of the table and couch, and a power source in the corner. Here is where I write posts, create and maintain websites, edit photos, do bookkeeping, plan my itinerary, etc. It’s a compact and comfortable set-up.

There’s plenty of desktop space for my MacBook Pro 15 laptop, a writing pad, and reference material. In an overhead cabinet, are reference books and files. Also, a 500GB-7200RPM Seagate GoFlex Pro portable hard-drive for back-ups. Most documents are scanned and saved on the hard-drive; only a few are kept in a flex-file folder. A fire-flood resistant safe holds essential papers.

Below the table, I added a box that holds paper, painting panels and my Epson XP-400 printer-copier-scanner. It connects to the computer via Wi-Fi or with a USB cable. When in use, it can easily be reached while sitting at the desk. (See Three Handy Mods)

In the corner, is a flip-up shelf meant for a portable TV. But, since I don’t have one, it is used as extra desk space. My LG-235C prepaid cell TracFone and iPod Touch or iPad mini are handy here. A Verizon Jetpack 4620LE MiFi by Novatel usually sets by the window. If it needs help picking up a signal, the Wilson Sleek booster connected to an exterior Wilson Truckers antenna is used.

Under the shelf, is an AC and a DC outlet, and connections for a land-line phone and cable-TV. Below it, I put a small 3-drawer unit that holds office supplies. A bonus is that it also functions nicely as an armrest.

A large plush pillow provides back support and comfort. And the AC powered speakers stream music from my iTunes Library. The large panoramic windows always provide a fantastic view while I’m working. Note that the laptop travels on the floor in its padded messenger bag.

In a prior Mobile Office post I talked about possibly removing one couch and making a desk in the corner. However, using the table as is turns out to be very functional.
