Dirty Devil

(Hite UT)
Went through Hanksville where I updated the blog, and did some other internet work. Then I picked up UT-95 headed south. It went through some pretty flat terrain with the Henry Mountains to the west.

Then, the scenery changed to red rock and narrow canyons with tall cliffs on both sides of the road. There were not many pullouts and too small for stopping to photograph the magnificent formations. Finally, a reststop at Hog Canyon gave me a break.

Lake Powell

A ways further, the road entered Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. A large pullout, at Hite Overlook atop a mesa, gave an expansive view of Lake Powell, the Colorado River and Hite Marina on the other side.

Moving down and across the Dirty Devil River gave a view from below the mesa. Yes, the name for this post. That’s because the area is just the far north end of Glen Canyon. And, I will likely visit the main part at a later date; so, thought I’d save the title for then.

Colorado River

Another bridge crossed the Colorado River. And then, it was a gradual climb up the other side of the canyon. Along the way, there were more mesas and mountains in the distance. One earned a sign due to its unique shape. Jacob’s Chair was clearly visible to the north, and another named Cheese Box Butte.

It was getting pretty hot as I continued onward UT-95 toward another interesting scenic destination. Suggested by another blogger, it was right along my route.

With Utah, after two or three red cliff pictures it all starts looking the same to me. 😉

Have a safe and pleasant trip southward!

Perhaps if you limit your travels to the southern canyons area. But, other parts of the state are much different.

Thanks for the pictures. Utah must be a beautiful state.

To me it has some of the most varied and visually interesting terrain.
