Patagonia

(Patagonia AZ)
The charming small town of Patagonia was once a mining and cattle ranching center. The mines left, but ranching in the area remains. It had a laid-back vibe with many buildings retaining their old west style.

The downtown had a regular food market and one offering organics, a bakery, a coffee shop, saloon, pizza place, hotel with restaurant, several galleries showing local art, a senior center and a visitor center. The early train depot had been converted to the Town Hall surrounded by a large park with walkways.

At the edge of town was the Paton hummingbird sanctuary; however, I didn’t see any there. Down the road further was the Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve run by the Nature Conservancy. A short trail ran from downtown along the creek and back.

I found a nice campsite, in the mountains above town, next to a creek and some sycamore trees. Unfortunately, it rained while I was there. Still, I had a couple of sunny days at a pretty spot with 3G internet.

It’s a nice little mountain village with a welcoming feeling. I liked it too.

Looks like a cool place to visit. I love the old restored train depots. We have a few of them in Iowa. I looked up that area but didn’t realize you are that far south. Sounds like fun!

Yes, I am having great fun. And, going even further south; keep following along.
