Luna-Mimbres Museum

(Deming NM)
The Luna-Mimbres Museum was a profusion of artifacts commemorating the history and memories of those that lived in the Mimbres Valley, Luna County, and the town of Deming. There seemed to be no end to the variety of items and topics preserved.

From dolls, to native pottery and wares, quilts and lace, cameras, ranch gear, furniture, musical instruments, clothing, historic figures, vehicles, military, medicine, geodes, etc. All were well presented in a clean and expansive building formerly used as the National Guard Armory.

One could spend days examining the myriad items on display. And to top it off, entry was free, with an optional donation box. A wonderful presentation of the area’s history, and well worth the time to explore.

I camped at nearby Rockhound State Park, a few miles from town, for free with my Annual Camping Pass. The campground sets against the Little Florida Mountains, with trails into the hills where rock collecting is allowed.

Yep that is a pretty interesting museum. I see it has even improved since I was there years ago. Rockhound is a pretty neat park. My dad used to really enjoy going there decades ago. Keep warm.
