Decorating Tardis

(Columbus NM)
After two and a half years of traveling, I decided it was time for a change. So, redecorating Tardis with a southwest flavor was begun. Finding some throws for the seating was a longtime search. Getting designs that I liked, of a decent quality, and for a price I could afford was difficult. When I was in Winston, I finally found what I was looking for at the General Store.

Decorating Tardis – Lounge

Spreads for the two couches, each with a unique pattern, provide color and variety. The designs are woven into the fabric, and of a decent weight; so, they should last. I think the covers add a bit of pizazz to the lounge.

The seats in the cab also needed updating. First, I tried buying seat covers. Lucky for me, they didn’t fit properly. Plus, I really didn’t care much for the look; so, they were returned. Instead, I picked up a couple of shawls which fit the southwest theme. They cover the seats well; and, have the added advantage of being easily washed.

Changeable decor includes paintings, flowers, a mini-sombrero, a Navajo seed pot, a wood carving of a turtle, and a clay sculpture of a native carrying a basket. These are small pieces that can be rearranged at will.

A ceramic tile of a colorful rooster adorns the galley wall. New curtains are next on my wish list. Sizing will be an issue, so I may have to make my own to get what I want. So far, I like it!

I really like the soutwest theme. It looks terrific!

Your comments about the seatcovers were familiar. It is so difficult to find ones that fit. As a Walmart automotive employee (among a dozen other departments), I see them come back all the time. Your idea of using a shawl was brilliant.

I’ll bet Tardis never looked better. Great job!

I’m really enjoying the new look. There is more I would like to do. But, I tend to move slowly when making changes.

It took me four years before I figured out that Comfort Castle was likely to be my home for the rest of my life. That freed me to ruin it, from a resale value perspective according to an RV sales jerk, and make it mine. I am still in progress on making it mine. It is nice to see you did not waste so much time before personalizing Tardis. Congratulations!

I really like the spreads idea. That will be much easier to clean and change as the whim hits you. The second bench seat cover hits me perfectly. I love it. You are definitely on the right track.

I haven’t made any physical alterations that would affect resale value. But like you, I expect to have this rig for a good while. So, I’m decorating it to my own tastes.

Life is uncertain – eat dessert first – and decorate and personalize your space in a way that makes you smile. Resale time may never materialize.

    Virtual hugs,

Good advice Judie; and you are so-o-o right. I had already done some personalizing. But, I was ready for a change

      Smiling is the important part!

Resale brings to mind The Bayfield Bunch and Lloyd Triechel. Both had rigs they made very personal in many ways. Both thought it would take a long time to sell. Both rigs sold really soon after they were put on the market at the right price. Judie is really correct I realize more and more as I near my 70th birthday.

Like the idea of the shawls for cab seat covers. We also returned seat covers that didn’t fit, and just have towels on the seats. Your idea is much more stylish.

I too was using a towel. But, when I saw the shawls they seemed much nicer. Glad I got them.

We have a 10 y.o. rig and have been adding personal touches. As long as it is functional and water tight, ours will not lose 20% of what we gave over the next 10 years. I like color and patterns. Factory décor is bland and as appealing as an original RV mattress.

The custom designed seating in my 12 year old Lazy Daze was fine. But, I was ready for a change in the look.

I think the new decor is very pleasing to the eye. There is always a toss up between personalization and retaining resale value. But, what is the price of happiness and the enjoyment of looking at things that please you?

Glad you like my choices for the new theme. On balance, I decided to go with the personal style over future value. Enjoying it makes life better.
