French Broad River

(Del Rio TN)
On my way to the Smoky Mountains, I drove along the French Broad River. The sight of cascading water with lots of rocks was enough for me to stop to take photos.

The river flows for 216 miles from near Brevard NC, through Asheville and into Tennessee, eventually emptying into the Tennessee River in Knoxville TN. Along the way, many other rivers merge with it.

Lots of rocks

Following the French Broad from beginning to end would make a fun adventure. It was once a major trade route, and is now famous for white water rafting. The water seemed a bit low where I stopped. But, it was still visually interesting.

Beautiful coloring in the water

I spent the night at the entrance to a campground in the mountains that had closed for the season earlier than their website had posted.

What a beautiful place! I agree – rocks in the water make it even more beautiful. Is there much fishing activity around there?

I expect there is fishing; after all, the river is over 200 miles long. However, at this spot, I was just passing through; so, I don’t know for sure about there.

The French Broad is broad and beautiful as it runs through Asheville. I enjoyed your photos of the river.
