Smoky Mountains Falls

(Bryson City NC)
I was a bit surprised to find a campsite available inside of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Especially since it was near a trail that went to three waterfalls. Just the kind of place for me!

Smoky Mountains Falls – Juney Whank Falls

About a three mile loop trail went up into the mountains. The first fall encountered was called Juney Whank. It tumbled down a rock face and under a footbridge, with a bench providing rest and a nice view.

Indian Creek Falls

After a good distance, Indian Creek Falls was found up a side trail. It was a pretty, double fall that cascaded into a large pool, with surrounding lush vegetation, which made it look almost tropical. An abundance of moss covered rocks added to its charm.

Deep Creek Falls

Deep Creek Falls flowed down several rock shelves into the creek. Each drop was unique and beautiful by itself. Had the fall colors been more advanced, it would have been an even more marvelous site.

Mini-Waterfall on Unknown Stream

A small cascade on a side stream appeared as a mini-waterfall as it descended over the rocks. There was an abundance of rhododendrons along the trail; so, I bet it would be magnificent in the springtime.

I take it that you were there before the forest fires. I think the Great Smoky Mtns National Park is my favorite and most beautiful place in all the world. I have so many good memories of backpacking and camping there.

I was there in October. The fires were just recently. Apparently many agree with you, as I think it is the most visited national park.

I am now back in New Mexico, and plan to spend the winter in the southwest. What is “Winter Blast”?
