Rocks of Joshua

(nr Twentynine Palms CA)
Joshua Tree National Park also had several noteworthy rocks. Some were named for their interesting shapes, and others were simply beautiful massive formations. Needless to say, I was in rock heaven.

One of the formations was called Shear Fear by rock climbers. I can’t remember the name of the above photo, but it would qualify for that name in my opinion. Far more wonderful rocks were photographed than could be possibly shown here.

Cap Rock

Atop a huge formation was a rock poised at the edge which they called Cap Rock. Not sure it resembles one to me though. The back side provides a challenge for rock climbers. And, there was a trail leading off into some other nearby rocks.

Face Rock

Skull Rock was by the side of the road, and thus lots of folks stopped. I had to wait a considerable time to get a shot without someone posing in front of it. I’m not sure that the Face Rock I photographed is the correct one. However, I saw a few that I thought qualified.

Another Split Rock

At Split Rock there was a picnic area, and a 2.5 mile loop trail that passed several rocks with various splits in their formation. I only hiked about 1/2 mile and then turned back. Still, I got to see some nifty rocks.

Arch Rock

It was getting late, but I took the chance to find Arch Rock before dark. The trail was not obvious. As I looked around while walking, I tripped over a big rock hitting my knee. It was pretty sore and scratched; but, I continued anyway. Squeezing between rocks, I finally found it, as well as one with a big hole.

Piled Rocks

It was a great day of exploring amongst some marvelous rock formations. Then, back to camp and a visit with RV friends.

Cool rock formations, Pleinguy! Be careful. I’m glad the injury wasn’t more severe. The pictures were beautiful.

Thanks Brad. The knee is all better now. Have to remember to watch where I’m going when in unfamiliar territory.

Awesome! What a great place to explore. Have you done any paintings of this area?

Yes, it was great! No paintings from there yet; maybe later. I’m in the middle of another project at this time.
