Sitting Bull Falls

(nr Queen NM)
Been wanting to see Sitting Bull Falls for a good while. Since it was in the desert, I figured the springtime was best to find the water flowing. It was the first week in April, and the volunteer there said it was a good time.

Still, it was not a large flow; more like a bridal veil type. But, there were a few different streams dropping down to a pool at the base. Then the water in the pool trickled down across some rocks to a small creek.

There was an observation platform, as well as a small trail below the falls. Another trail went to the top of the ledge where I believe there were some water basins. I didn’t go up because it was fairly steep, and my back was giving me problems.

Bighorn Sheep

The drive in was through a small canyon, with the windy road crossing a creek several times. Cliffs along the way we’re pretty. And, I got a bonus of seeing a small flock of bighorn sheep grazing by the cliffs.

Nice pictures Pleinguy. That is the lowest water flow I have seen there in my five trips in to Sitting Bull Falls. The trail to the top has steps cut into the rock. At the top the small pools are cute but I was too afraid to get close enough to the drop off to take a “great” picture down the falls. I hope you enjoyed the visit.

Would liked to have seen more water, and thought early April was the best time. Still, it was a pretty spot.
