Toadstools Trail

(nr Church Wells UT)
Within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument was a trail called The Toadstools; the trailhead was right off of US-89. It was supposed to have some hoodoos, and other rocks.

The first part of the hike went into a canyon and past colorful cliffs. Near the end was where the special rocks appeared. Some climbing was needed to get good views, and to see some not visible from below.

I followed the trail past the main features into the hills, hoping to find more. But, the rock scrambling and sandy soil only led into a box canyon. Still, there was different scenery which made it worthwhile.

It was a 1.6 mile round trip trail. But, with my wandering around and getting off the main path, it took a bit longer than normal. The terrain was relatively easy, and I got to see some interesting rock formations.

What cool terrain! I liked the mushroom-like formations. I’ve never asked – do you find the heat challenging while out there hiking? I suppose it is a dry heat at least, but it’s still probably warm. Take care Pleinguy!

It is a dry heat, which does help. However, I try to do the hikes in cooler seasons and during the cool part of the day. This one was done in early June and before lunchtime. Wearing light clothing and a wide brim hat also helps. And of course, taking plenty of water to keep hydrated.
