Lower Gallinas Canyon

(nr Emory Pass NM)
Entering Lower Gallinas Canyon there was a dramatic shift to rugged cliffs and massive rock formations. They came right to the edge of the road, so there was nowhere to stop until getting through the best. Coming out of an ‘S’ turn was a pull-out just big enough for Tardis.

I parked and walked back to get some photos, being very careful to watch for traffic. Getting a good angle to shoot the cliffs and rocks, without being in the road, was not easy.

Massive Rock Formation

On one side, was a deep cut down to a creek with vertical cliffs on the other side.  Huge rock formations of many shapes were everywhere. It was a rock lovers dream.

I got lucky with the lighting being pretty good for photos. The spectacle only lasted for a short way. But, boy was it wonderful!

It was nice. But, might be too high for you at about 6,800ft.

I can handle a DAY trip on up to about 8000 if it is not strenuous but just sight seeing type of travel.

Awesome pictures! I can imagine what it was like to walk down there with no shoulder to the road. Yikes! But, the photos of the rocks were definitely worth it. I’m glad there was enough move to maneuver Tardis. Have a good one, Pleinguy!

It was tricky. But, one needs to take chances when confronted with magnificent rocks.
