Horses

(Los Ojos NM)
This summer, in northern New Mexico, I seem to be seeing more horses than in previous years. They are seen grazing in the fields and hills of ranches I pass. Beautiful, noble creatures with a bit of wild about them despite their domestication.

I have thought of paying a guide to take me horseback riding up into the mountains. There are lots of places that provide such excursions. But, I haven’t been on a horse since I was a kid. Chances are that I’d hurt myself, or irritate the horse with my greenhorn ways.

I enjoy my life traveling, seeing new places, and having interesting experiences. Maybe riding a horse on a mountain trail will be one of them. Or perhaps, certain things are better left as dreams.

I would ride the horse into the mountains for sure. I have ridden two horses in my life at a dude ranch. One was a miserable mount and the second was a retired cutting horse and she was a wonderful experience. It would be a lot better than a motorized vehicle. Since hiking is out of the question for me, a horse sounds great.

Maybe you should take another ride some day. I’m still thinking it over.
