Gila Colors

(nr Gila Hot Springs NM)
Drove up into the Gila National Forest and Wilderness in search of fall colors. It took a lot of looking around as most trees were of the evergreen variety. With perseverance, I did find a few golden specimens.

Gila Colors – Roadside

Several stops along the side of the road were needed to get photos; the few cars that passed didn’t matter. Though, some scenes were impossible to capture because of no pullout spots.

Not all colors were in the trees. Some eroded hillsides provided rich orange and yellow hues. And, the rabbit bush was flashing gold. The contrast with deep greens and purples made the colors sing.

By the River

My camping spot was above the Gila River facing impressive cliffs; and all alone. During an evening walk, deer and a bobcat were seen. The cat scurried out of the brush just ahead of me. I just love camps like that.

We have been trying to get up to the Dwellings for three years – so far – no luck! Gila is a big draw as a bonus. Your pictures are very enticing!

    Virtual hugs,

    Judie

You should go. The dwellings are interesting, and the area is beautiful.
