Pine Tree Trail

(nr Organ NM)
Located in the Aguirre Springs NRA the Pine Tree Trail goes up to the pinnacles and loops back to the beginning. I hiked it all the way a few years ago; but, only did a short portion this time with my friend.

Pine Tree Trail

Not sure how it got the name, as I don’t recall seeing pines along the way; maybe at the top. A few bigger trees provided shade for a rest. Plenty of scraggly trees, massive rocks, shrubs, and some spring runoff.

The water was likely coming from the springs of the area name. It was a refreshing sight as it tumbled over the rocks and wended its way done the mountain.

Some spring growth provided a nice contrast in colors. Great views of the mountains, and of the valley below. And, the weather was perfect for a morning outing.

We camped there after stopping somewhat late at White Sands National Monument; very nice of the rangers there to suggest it as otherwise we would not have found it. Great campsite and awesome trail as you found. We really enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder.

Agreed, it is one of my favorite camps and beautiful area. BTW, White Sands is now a National Park; I too went there when it was considered a National Monument.

I’m glad the virus has not kept you hostage from your travels! It is great to see you are still out and about. Enjoy!

While it’s true that New Mexico has not been hit as hard with the virus, I am still restricted on where I can go. This trail was closed just a few days after my hike. I’m trying to get out to lightly visited places; but, I’m gradually running out of options in my area. For someone that likes to roam, the travel restrictions make it difficult. Sure glad others are still reading about the journey though. Thanks!
