(nr Winston NM)
A walk near my camp in the Black Range found several rock formations scattered on a hillside. These were mostly gray in color and well worn from weather and water. None were spectacular, but the variety was pleasant.
For some reason, I always find their shapes, sizes, textures, colors, and arrangements interesting. And, they seem to just emerge from the ground and provide a different element in the landscape.
Sometimes they are one giant mass, and others a jumbled pile of multiple pieces, or maybe strewn across a field. Whatever their configuration it is a welcome change to the surrounding vegetation.
My fascination with rocks is inexplicable. I’m not concerned with their makeup, how they were formed, their type, or any geological facts. Nor do I want to collect them. I just like how they look!
