On the Home Stretch

(Jacksonville FL)
I’ve done the research, and know what is needed to make the Plein Air Journey. The time has come for getting down to the nitty-gritty of executing the plan. This coming year will be spent preparing the house to sell and maximizing my savings.

A few repairs to be made on the house, some painting to do, new carpeting to install, and yard work should make it ready to put on the market by summer 2012. That will be six months before my retirement target date. With any luck, the house will sell for a fair price before then.

The search for a used Lazy Daze motorhome that will meet my full-timing needs continues. The house needs to be sold first, so I can pay cash for the rig. That means I may need to find temporary housing until the RV purchase. Should the house sell early, and I find my traveling home, I will gladly switch to living in the Lazy Daze RV before retirement.

My HSA is funded and, since I’ve officially become a senior citizen, I’m no longer allowed to add more; it will have to do. I have sufficient savings for an emergency fund, and an RV maintenance fund. Plus there should be enough to prep the house. Now, the goal is to stash away as much as possible to cover any other expenses.

With the right amount of effort, and a little luck going down the home stretch, I will be on the road to my new life in early 2013.

Sounds like a plan!! We are doing pretty much the same, with 6 months in a TINY APARTMENT – 3 months to go and maximizing our savings as well as buying things we need for our RV which is being built. Will we hit the road with exactly what they suggest for a reserve fund – most likely not but somethings are just not worth waiting for!! :>) We’ll be just fine – perhaps a little bit of workamping might be needed but time will tell.
    Enjoy the process!!!

May you have smooth sailing fixing your house to sell.I have had so many setbacks trying to get out on the road, lastest being a small but expensive house fire. We just have to keep positive and our plans will come together.

Dick: You think that apartment is small? Wait until you start living in that 200 SF Class C rig of yours.
Becky: Thanks for the good vibes. Hope to meet you someday too.
Dragonfly: Sorry to hear about your setback. Hope you get back on track real soon.
