Heading South

(Radium Springs NM)
I’ve been hanging out, for a good while, in the area between Albuquerque and Las Cruces along the path of the Río Grande. I met some fellow full-time RVers, ate at a couple of local cafés, and learned a lot about the region. Now, I’ll be heading south to explore another area of New México.

The plan is to visit Rockhound SP near Deming. It is in the foothills of the Florída Mountains, and near to Spring Canyon. Both of which are supposed to be very scenic. Afterward, I’ll go further south down to Pancho Villa SP by the border with México. There are some historic sites there.

Both parks are further south than where I’ve been camping. So, the hope is temperatures will be milder. Although, they are at slightly higher elevations which could negate any advantage. Either way, this winter has been pretty nice.

Internet has been good at all the state parks I’ve visited here. But, I’m not sure what I will find at these two. So, if I don’t post for a while you will know why.

Nice area of New Mexico – you should also be a tad warmer :>)

I’ve heard it’s nice there. Hope you’re correct about the temps.

You’ll have good internet there. We really like Rockhound SP, and Deming isn’t a bad little town. We aren’t crazy about Pancho Villa, though, and you will see that there isn’t much to Columbus. Have fun exploring.

Glad to hear about a good internet connection at Rockhound. Not much for towns or tourist stops; prefer the boonies. Thanks for the heads-up on the area.

Hi! I’ve seen your comments on some other blogs but just found yours this evening. I lived in ABQ for a few years but never made it to Rockhound SP (though I’ve collected rocks all my life). I’ll be most interested in your comments on that area, as I plan to be full-timing in the next month or so. (Though not as luxuriously as you — love your rig.)

Thanks for commenting CJ. Good luck on your full-timing plans; it’s a great lifestyle. Hope you continue to follow the journey.

I sure liked the pictures. Those prickly pear cactus paddles look delicious. I love them (“nopales”) in a salad. They do a great job lowering blood sugar, too. It sounds like you are having a great time out west. Take care!

I’ve heard that they are good. Yes, I’m enjoying it here. Not sure how much you would though, since I’ve seen very few fishing holes. 🙂
