Coral Pink Sands

(nr Kanab UT)
As I went through Kanab, I stopped to get gas, and had lunch at Big Al’s Burgers. The “Outlaw” was a bacon-cheeseburger with a side of fries and fry-sauce; I treated myself to a soft-serve vanilla cone for desert.

Headed north out of town and US-89 soon turned to gravel for several miles as it was being repaired and repaved. About 7 miles out, I turned onto a side road and went toward my destination. Along the way was the small Ponderosa Grove CG-BLM with a few nice sites in the pine trees.

Sand dunes and cliffs

The Coral Pink Sand Dunes are a favorite playground of the OHV set. And, there is a state park with a campground and trails to explore without the dune buggies. It wasn’t necessary to go into the state park, as there were several pull-offs where you could walk in to see the dunes. I stopped at a few to take photos of the sand dunes.

After returning to US-89, I found a free boondock camp on BLM land just off the highway and facing the Elkheart Cliffs. A nice view on a knoll, and with internet too. I stayed for two days.

Beautiful views. Man can never compete with the art work of Mother Nature.

Dave, great pictures and art work. My wife and I traveled full time in our RV for 5 years. We went as far as Alaska, Canadian Rockies and national parks from Maine to California. I even got to paint plein air with a number of plein air groups along the way. Great fun as I’m sure you are having also. Sorry, I’ve let my membership to Florida Plein Air lag. Hope to renew soon. Oh, nice pictures! I stayed at that Ponderosa campground when in the area in 2012. Visited the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Liked it so much I stayed for 3 days. Didn’t realize there was a great BLM site nearby, and with internet signal to boot! Great score!
    Safe travels,
    Jeanne

Anywhere there is a BLM or NFS campground, there are usually boondock sites nearby. Thanks for commenting.
