Lake Tahoe

(Tahoe City CA)
On my way to Lake Tahoe, I stopped in Carson City to get groceries, gas and propane. Then continued around the south end of the lake. There was way more development around the lake than 30 years ago when I was last there for a painting workshop.

The drive around the west edge of the lake is in the Tahoe National Forest, and provides high point views overlooking the lake. A few pull-outs allow for photo opportunities. There are trails up into the mountains that would be interesting to hike.

Fannette Island in Emerald Bay

The ever popular castle Vikingsholm on Fannnette Island in Emerald Bay is THE photo shot everyone wants; and they were all there. I took as many angles as I could. But, a short way up the road, was another spot with huge rocks and trees which I really liked.

The three campgrounds I picked, at which I hoped to land, didn’t work out. One didn’t have a level site and cost more than expected, another was closed for renovation, and the free one was not yet open for the season.

I needed to dump the waste tanks and fill fresh water, and found a place near Truckee along my route for $5. An alternate camp was not far away at Prosser Reservoir where I stayed two days.
