Red River Canyon

(Red River NM)
Explored Red River Canyon in search of fall colors starting from Questa. Just outside of town was my first glimpse. I stopped for some photos, and waited for the sun to peak through the clouds.

On the way up, I was lucky enough to find a few pull-outs to get photos of the aspens, maples and willows. Most were yellow, but a few were turning orange. The only red was on a bush next to the river.

Stopped in the ski town of Red River for lunch at Shotgun Willies. Had a pretty good brisket bar-b-que and fries. There were supposed to be a few art galleries in town. But, I didn’t see any, so I continued up the canyon.

Discovered a small waterfall on the Red River. Reached Bobcat Pass at 9,820 ft and began seeing peaks with a little snow. Forecast was for more snow and temps in the teens overnight; so, I kept moving.

At the top, the road went through Eagle Nest and Angel Fire, another ski area. Then, I turned south and passed along Coyote Creek. There was nice scenery there too, and it started to rain. I continued on to Storrie Lake State Park to camp for a few days; again my site was free.

You sure did take some beautiful pictures. Fall colors are beautiful. I miss the Fall where I grew up in western Pennsylvania.

I love the contrast of colors of the bright leaves and the dark evergreens.

That was a neat place. Unfortunately it began raining and there was very little room on the side of the road for my rig.
