Coyote Ridge

(Imperial Dam CA)
Located just outside of the Imperial Dam LTVA, and beyond Coyote Ridge toward the Little Picacho Wilderness to the west, was a free dispersed camping area. It was far enough away to feel secluded.

There were supposed to be wild burros in the area. So, I ventured out trying to locate them; but, found only some old scat. Went as far as the foothills, around and over them the trail went, and finally back to the rig.

Another day’s hike went in a different direction; across the ridge and down into a wash. That time I found some more recent scat, and tracks; but, no burros again. Decided to go beyond the wash for a look-see with no luck, and then circled around returning to camp.

My friend Ted, from Life with Kurumi, visited and we hiked yet a different trail. This time going more easterly than my first attempt and found success. There they were on a distant ridge. We approached slowly, looping around to their flank. They sure were keeping an eye on us.

After getting several zoom shots, we headed away to find the rusted out hulk of a car. It was used for target practice so was in really bad shape. Then, we took a trail going west that made a wide loop back to the wash and to Tardis.

Spent a few days peacefully camped by myself near the end of the road overlooking a wash. There was a good internet signal, not much activity, and the weather was superb. Having seen the wild burros it was time to move on to another adventure.

Glad we got to visit and especially that we found some wild burros before you left.

Nice entry! Beautiful area/scenery. Believe Coyote Ridge will be one of our first stops next Spring, upon entry into the state.

I suspect you would enjoy it. Keep in mind that location was outside the LTVA and thus free for 14 days. Have fun!
