Tubac

(Tubac AZ)
Since I was passing right by Tubac, a visit to see the art galleries was an easy choice. A small village re-invented as an art center was mostly craft shops, galleries, museums, and eateries.

Sculpture, wood carving, metal crafts, pottery, jewelry, weaving, hand-crafted furniture, native and Mexican crafts were some of the offerings. I especially enjoyed the plein air paintings found at Geren Gallery and Cobalt Fine Arts. There was too much to see in just one visit.

Lunch at Wisdom’s Dos was a delicious burrito and iced tea. Also at the edge of town, was the Presidio San Ignacio de Tubac State Historic Park; a colonial Spanish military outpost. But, it would have to wait for a different time, as another stop was planned.

There’s also a mesquite wood factory that gives free tours in the area.

There was a lot of mesquite wood items, but I missed there being a factory. Something else to see on a return visit. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Great place, great photos. It’s heartwarming to see how those little ole towns figure out ways to re-invent themselves in order to thrive. The great western spirit lives on!

I was surprised and pleased to see so many shops, the variety, and seeming success. Nicely done mixing of old and new too.
