Whitewater Draw

(McNeal AZ)
The Whitewater Draw State Wildlife Area, just a short ways from town, is popular with birders. It attracts thousands of Sand Hill cranes during the winter nesting season. Alas, I was a little too late to see them.

I walked the loop trail out onto the wetland berms which had ponds on both sides. Lots of ducks and other birds were enjoying the water. There were observation decks for watching the birds, and some panels explaining the preserve and wildlife.

Four spots for RVs to park were provided next to picnic tables and pit toilets. I settled in for just one night, although you are allowed to dry camp three days for free. If you are into birding it would be a nice location; otherwise, it’s a convenient overnight camp if in the area.

Glad I brought you memories. It was a nice respite after my visit to Bisbee.
