Route 66 Auto Museum

(Santa Rosa NM)
Before leaving the area I visited the Route 66 Auto Museum. Located along the ‘Mother Road’ it housed over 30 cars and many nostalgic items. Some of the cars pre-dated or post-dated the hey-days of the highway. Still, they were nicely restored and in fine condition.

A few hot rod conversions, custom trucks, several Mustangs and Corvettes, a couple of nifty station wagons, Cadillacs, motorcycles, and some family sedans that looked very comfy and spacious.

Several of the cars were for sale, with some pretty hefty prices. Like the 1931 Auburn, or the 1951 Ford Woody that was priced at $95,000… Yikes!

There were also some scooters, signs, gas pumps, engines, photographs, posters, various scale models, toys, and commercial items that rounded out the collection.

While I grew up in the east, and as a result never experienced it; I can still recall the stories about the famed highway. If you like cars and/or remember the days of US-66, then you would probably enjoy seeing the memorabilia in this car museum.

Left NY in a 55 Studebaker Power Hawk customized for my father; there were only 300 made. Remember Route 66; we travelled on it to get to Arizona. Cute motels are a vivid memory. Have always loved old cars, as dad collected them. Thanks for taking these photos. Never heard of or saw a “stubby” before – how cool looking is that?!

Wow, wonderful experience and memories for you. I too enjoy the old cars and often dream about driving one.

The old cars – you really felt like you were driving. I learned on the Studebaker. It went 120 MPH no sweat. Rode in the back of the really old ones Dad had. Have a great photo of me standing on the running board of a Packard Cabriolet. Felt like a princess riding in that back seat. Will buy an old one for Sunday driving when I hit the “big time”. LOL

We are truly glad to have beheld all the work in portraying the love for the Old School rides. Quite a few I have owned and driven along time ago. I understand the hunger to keep the old days alive.
