Storrie Lake Wetlands

(Las Vegas NM)
Across the lake from the main camping area at Storrie Lake State Park was a dense wooded grove. A friend, that was also camped there, and I decided to walk over to check it out. So glad that we went.

A small bridge crossed over a stream; however, it was closed off due to disrepair. Some paths meandered through the woods, and we followed the one close to the stream. Evidence showed that fishermen sometimes tried their luck there.

It sat on the edge of the lake, with the stream running back into the woods, forming some wetlands with a variety of vegetation. Lots of birds were enjoying it, including ducks, geese and songbirds. Tracks showed deer, and other critters also liked it.

A camping section near the woods, that is only open in the summertime, looked suitable for tents and vans. The wetlands made for a peaceful stroll in nature, away from the activities on the other side of the lake.

Hi Pleinguy! I was curious about Storrie Lake and did some Googling… It sounds like they’ve got plenty of rainbow trout and bass – my kind of place! It looks like a beautiful, peaceful place!

It does seem to be popular with the local fishermen.
