Mammoth Creek

(nr Duck Creek Village UT)
Mammoth Creek was suggested as a good spot to camp in the forest. It was a long drive, but somewhat in the direction I wanted to go. So, off I went to find it. Several miles on a paved road, and a couple of miles up a gravel road got me there.

It had the feel of a campground to me; what with numbered spots well spaced, and a pit toilet. With tall pines, a nice creek with cascades, and over 8,100ft elevation it was a pretty good choice. Only two other campers kept it quiet, too.

Mammoth is supposed to be one of the few creeks in Utah flowing year-round. Sitting out in the cool air, walking along the creek taking photos, and the babbling waters lulling me to sleep at night made for a pleasant stay. Can’t get much better!

Sure enough, continuing on the gravel road brought me to a paved highway fairly close to my next destination. Pretty sweet!

Hi Pleinguy. That looks like a beautiful place to camp! It’s great going to locations where there are few people around. How large is the creek? Does it support any fish?

It’s a pretty decent sized creek; and, I’m pretty sure it has fish.

Too bad you have the elevation issue, as you miss a lot of neat camps. Still, there are plenty of good sites to be had at lower places.
