Capitol City

(nr Lake City CO)
Riding my bike further up Engineer Pass Rd took me to the ghost town of Capitol City. Established in 1877 to support mining operations in the area, the town had two stores, several hotels, restaurants, a post office and about 100 cabins.

The place also had a carriage house, two smelters, a lime and brick kiln, and a saw mill. Little remains today of the town with big plans, which was located on the road leading over the pass to Ouray and Silverton.

Mountains, Aspens and Pines

It was a beautiful setting with the 14,000ft snow capped mountains, aspen groves, tall pines, and cascading creeks. About two miles up a side road was another impressive, tall, and thundering waterfall.

Weather was perfect for the bike ride in the mountains through fabulous scenery. I stopped often to take photos and to absorb the experience.
