Elden Pueblo

(Flagstaff AZ)
Another pueblo ruin of the Sinagua natives was found right next to the highway at the base of Mount Elden. Again, it was of rock-n-mortar construction, likely 60 rooms and occupied by about 300 people for around 200 years.

It is believed to have been along a trade route based on artifacts found at the site that originated from Mexico and coastal California. The Hopi natives believe these people were their ancestors.

Some Rooms

There wasn’t much to see there as the area is still considered an archeological study site. On the same day, I had attempted to visit the Walnut Canyon cliff dwellings a few miles away. However, it was closed due to smoke from a nearby wildfire covering the area.

I did manage to get a zoom photo of a cliff dwelling from the Visitor Center. But, that was not the major portion. Then, it was on to another forest boondocking camp.
