Nine Mile Canyon Rock Art

(nr Wellington UT)
Nine Mile Canyon is promoted as “the world’s longest art gallery” with numerous panels of rock art spread out along the byway.

Images were created by the Fremont culture and other natives, like Utes and Navajo spread over hundreds of years.

Bighorn Sheep
Horse Riders
Owls, Sheep, Bear Claw

Panel names are just my guess at what was drawn. Except for Owls, Elk Hunt, Big Bison and Great Hunt which are titles assigned by experts.

Shaman
Geometrics, Elk, Riders
Elk Hunt with Riders

I suspect most panels are a mixture of themes made at different times. Thus, the variety of figures in each.

Bison, Scorpion, Snake
Snake, Scorpion
Big Bison, Sheep, Men

It also appears that the size of figures in any panel are not relative to each other. Rather, they’re as big as needed to get the desired detail.

Bighorn Sheep
Great Hunt for Bighorn Sheep

These are just a sample of the drawings I saw. Many more photos were taken; and, I’m sure I missed finding some.
