Fantasy Canyon

(nr Bonanza UT)
The next point of interest was rumored to be closed because of vandalism. To be sure, and before driving all the way there, I called the BLM that verified it was still open to visitors.

Fantasy Canyon

Fantasy Canyon had surprising and eerie rock formations. They’re said to be the result of an ancient riverbed that deposited sediments which solidified, then over millions of years, were eroded by water and wind.

Strange Pile-up

There were a great variety of forms, from smooth and rounded, to spiny protrusions, and stacked slabs. Some of the fantastical rocks had names like ‘witches head’ and ‘prowling coyote’. What an amazing grouping!

The natives had an equally fantastical legend about how the formations came to be.  All I know is, it was a feast for the eyes and imagination. I’m so glad I got to see them.

Something Watching

I thought this was to be my last adventure in that area of eastern Utah. However, I learned of another place I wanted to see before moving on.
