(nr Camp Sherman OR)
On the way to the Metolius River, I stopped in Bend to get gas. And then, promptly got lost; but, eventually found the road toward Sisters. I passed a nice turnout to photograph the major peaks in the mountains, before realizing what it was. Should have turned around, as there was not another opportunity up the highway.
The mountain village of Sisters was very busy with tourists, and had no obvious place to park my RV Tardis. It was lunchtime so I stopped on the far edge of town for a sandwich. The drive up into the mountains would take awhile. And, I still didn’t know where I would find my next camp.
The general area I wanted was near the Metolius River. It was Memorial Day weekend; so, finding a spot in a campground would be difficult. Sure enough, all of the many campgrounds near the river were full. While looking, I came upon an RV friend who had nabbed perhaps the last available riverside site.
It was he who had told me about the beauty of this area. We had a nice visit, and then he suggested a forest road that could provide a boondocking camp. Sure enough, I found a cozy campsite in a clearing with tall pines. A short walk took me to a good view of Mt.Jefferson. I stayed through the holiday and then some.
