Logs Along the Way

While hiking, I am always looking for interesting subjects. Sometimes, I come across an intriguing fallen tree. Its weathered and ravaged trunk stands out amid the greenery.

One wonders how, in these seemingly verdant conditions, the trees have fallen. Was it due to pests, a lightning strike, or perhaps just from old age?

Even in their decaying state they give pleasure to the passing hiker. With the textured bark, extended limbs, muted colors, and hollow cavities they provide lots of visual interest.

Sometimes their situation creates an interesting composition of shapes, textures and colors to photograph. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have.

When I hike, it is for exploring and experiencing the landscape; exercise is a bonus. Mainly, it’s about feeling a part of nature. Finding these logs along the way makes a hike even more pleasurable.

I think you nailed it pretty good when you said; “When I hike, it is for exploring and experiencing the landscape; exercise is a bonus. Mainly, it’s about feeling a part of nature.” Nothing like being in the midst of nature. Another good post!
