(Santa Rosa NM)
Within Santa Rosa Lake State Park, was a short trail with views overlooking the dam and lake. It wasn’t a good spot to see the dam; but, had a wonderfully expansive view of the lake.
The road went almost to the top of a hill to a small parking lot. A paved walkway went from there and circled the hilltop. Looking outward were distant canyons and rock walls. Inward were several interesting rock piles mingled amongst desert plants.
While similar, each rock had a unique shape; and, the combination of juniper trees, cactus and shrubs provided a nice variety of textures and colors. Simply moving around them, to a different viewpoint, gave a new composition suitable for another painting.
An advantage of this lifestyle, is that I can slow down and experience scenes like that at anytime; no schedules to meet. The rocks along the trail, on that warm and clear spring day, made for a pleasant walk while enjoying nature’s gifts.

Looks like they have enjoyed good rains as the lake looks very healthy. Nice weather, too. Thanks.
Yes, it has rained quite a bit. All the lakes seem to be up. It’s a nice change from the past few years. I’m really enjoying hanging around NM for the springtime.
Circumstances kept me out of New Mexico this spring. However I do have high hopes for the cooler fall times this year. Your photos are keeping me invigorated.
It’s been a very pleasant season. Too bad you missed it, Barney. Hope things improve, so you can roam at will.
Thanks for showing us this stop. Beautiful Photos! Each one a great composition. Makes me want to paint all of them. No I won’t, though. I know the rules.
Thanks for the thoughts Dorothy. I appreciate that you are following the journey.
