The Angel Peak Scenic Area is another section of the badlands that includes Angel Peak which rises out of the desert, and can be seen from miles away. It turned out to be much more interesting than I had thought.
Several overlooks provided views into the canyon below, and to the horizon. Off in the distance rose Angel Peak, and each stop got you closer to it. At a few points, trails would go down into the canyon. Although, I don’t believe they were designated or marked.
Each overlook had picnic shelters and a pit toilet. My understanding is that you can overnight in your rig at those (no tents); which I did. At the end of the road was a campground loop with small, unlevel sites suitable for tents.
A variety of rock colors, shapes, and viewpoints made the visit enjoyable. Notable features included, the canyon, cliffs, Castle Rock, and of course Angel Peak. It was much more accessible than Bisti, and more scenic too.
