(Mount Carmel UT)
The summer home and studio of western artist Maynard Dixon was right along the highway in this small town. A modern gallery with his paintings, and works by other artists, has been added on the adjacent land.
The gallery owner has purchased the property, and offers tours of the grounds and buildings. The home, studio and surrounds have been refurbished and contain his original furnishings, and art. It was like stepping back in time.
I believe he lived around Tucson AZ. This was his retreat from the city and the heat. He would invite friends and fellow artists to come visit and enjoy the surrounding redrock scenery. The owners have installed a few RV sites nearby, so you can rent time there now.
Dixon has become an icon of modern western painting. So, it was a pleasant surprise to come across his get-away spot in the mountains.

What a beautiful spot. I love the scenery from that peaceful location. It looks like a great location from which to relax and create.
I imagine it would have been quite the thing to be invited up there to paint with him during his time.
Sounds like a place we’d enjoy. Thanks for sharing.
It is very nice; and you can rent time there to paint or just retreat, too.
Would love to visit & paint…
It can be done. Hope all is well with you John.
