(Las Cruces NM)
Went to a free jazz concert on the plaza downtown and heard some pretty sweet music by local groups. It was mostly contemporary and smooth jazz styles. I was hoping to hear some classic jazz.
Included were NoteWorks from El Paso, and Special EFx All-stars with Eric Merienthal, Chiele Minucci, Lao Tizer, and featuring vocalist Elliot Yamin. They all were very good.
Folks of all ages were enjoying the sounds while seated or strolling around downtown. In these parts it’s fairly common to have free performances in parks, pubs, or galleries.
There were food, ice cream, and drink venders on the edge of the plaza; and, a craft brewery across the street. The evening was warm with a slight breeze in late May. Just another reason to be enchanted with New Mexico.

It was a perfect evening for an open air concert. Great fun!
Sounds like a fun time! Jazz is awesome. Like you, I prefer classical jazz. I imagine it was relaxing. Do y’all have trouble with bugs? In Iowa we can’t do much right now at night because of gnats and mosquitos. I suppose that’s not a worry out your way.
No bugs to speak off. Mosquitoes only near water sometimes.
I love the older style jazz before the instruments all became electrified.
I agree about the amplified instruments. But, it was still a good concert.
