(nr San Juan River Village CO)
On my last visit to the area I missed seeing Silver Falls. It was further off the highway than expected; but, well worth the drive. A narrow gravel road, with plenty of rocks, hills, and a stream to ford made it a bit challenging.
A fairly steep trail followed the edge of the river. The reward was a double drop waterfall with multiple, exciting cascades below. Getting good photos with the right viewpoint took some contortions.
The East Fork of the San Juan River provided wonderful scenes along the way, too. Wide vistas, river rapids, rocks, cliffs, wildflowers and tall trees provided lots of eye candy.
My camping spot was right next to the river with shade trees, a nice view of cliffs and the surrounding landscape. About halfway to the falls, it made a perfect camp.
Camp: San Juan NF-East Fork of San Juan River boondock
Scene: Waterfall, cascades, river
Great composition on the photos. That is a nice place to see. Could I make it up there pulling my trailer? Thanks for the report.
Recommend you drop your trailer at one of the boondock camps about half way in. Then use the truck for the remainder of the way to the falls. It’s a very nice area.
Nice photos. The first one may have been worth the climb! 😉
I loved it all. But, the big double drop was special.
Beautiful photos! I did some research about the trout fishing possibilities and it sounds like there are some terrific opportunities. Your pictures always make a person yearn to be there! Take care Pleinguy!
