(Grand Isle VT)
After flying into Vermont, took a ride around the Champlain Islands and got to see what makes the place so charming. Across the large lake can be seen the Adirondack Mountains in New York state on the other side.
Lots of boats and marinas, quiet country roads passing family farms, apple orchards, flowers all over, horses in the fields, and small villages with locally owned shops and restaurants.
One day we went for a hike on a “rails to trails” path out onto a narrow causeway into the lake. The first part went through a densely wooded area, and then opened up to great views of the lake and some small islets.
I could see why my friend loves this area. Everything seemed like an earlier time, with older buildings on a smaller scale, and friendly folks. Later, we had pizza at a local café.
Camp: Friend’s Place
Scene: Lake, horses, boats
Great choice of destination, if I do say so myself!
It was very enjoyable.
