(Nuevo Casas Grandes MX)
While in Puerto Palomas with a friend, we saw that the Pink Store was offering a guided tour to Copper Canyon. I had heard that there was fantastic scenery, and lots of interesting things to see and do. So, we signed up.
Our first stop was for lunch in a small café, and then a visit to a local artist at their home and gallery. She creates pottery in the style of Mata Ortiz where she grew up and learned her craft. Very nice work.
Then it was a long drive in a van over rolling hills that looked a lot like southern New Mexico. The schedule included stops in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Creel, Divisadero, and El Fuerte. It took us from the Chihuahuan Desert, over the Sierra Madres, and into the Sonoran Desert.
Camp: Hotels
Scene: Deserts, cities, mountains, villages
Would love to see photos of the country side. What an inspirational journey you’ve been on and have shared. Thank you!
The next few posts will be about the Copper Canyon trip, with plenty of photos. Thanks for following the Journey, Mark.
My wife has several Mata Ortiz pots in her small collection. They are very attractive and distinctive.

Yes they are. I saw them in several different places on the trip. So, they are popular, too.
