A brief stay at one of my favorite state parks in New Mexico; City of Rocks. I often camp there when passing through the area. This visit was for just a couple of days.
The rock formations are always impressive, and camping amongst them is special. The changing light imbues various moods. How trees and other vegetation can cling to them amazes me.
There are trails through them, and in the surrounding hills. It seems, whenever I walk the paths, they are somehow different. The night sky is filled with stars which I can never name. An observatory is on site to solve that dilemma.
The park is a couple of miles off of the highway which makes it a quiet camp. Except on holidays and weekends when it is a popular place. I avoid those times if I can.
