The Wild Wild West Fiesta is an annual town celebration. It starts with a parade through downtown. Years ago, I’m told it was a much bigger affair with floats and celebrities. It was still pretty decent.
Museums in town were free for the weekend and most shops had Fiesta Specials. Crafts and food vendors, a car and motorcycle show, basketball, volleyball, skateboard and horseshoe contests, junk boat race and duck race on the Río Grande, kids fishing derby, were all on the schedule.
Probably most popular were the free live music performances throughout the weekend. There were bands for rock-n-roll, cowboy, bluegrass, country, mariachi, and native styles. On Saturday night was a paid Mark Chesnutt concert followed by a dance.
I had to choose just a few photos to show various activities. The horses, wacky boat race, and mariachi singer were my favorites. It was a fun time for all.
