(nr Alivio NM)
Point of Rocks was another portion of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. A short 1/2 mile loop went up a hillside to the top of the point. And yes, there were a lot of rocks on the trail.
A lookout spot provided a view of the actual Jornada del Muerto below. The sandy area between the rocky hill and the railroad tracks (straight line across photo) would have been the main road. When the RR was built it mostly followed the historic trail.
Signs at the beginning and along the way explained the significance of the area. Those traveling south knew that plentiful water was only ten miles further from the rocks.
Point of Rocks was about nine miles south of the Yost Escarpment trailhead. Hiking both on the same day was an easy choice.

More great info. Thank you.
Thanks Barney. Glad you are still following my journey.
I moved to a campground closer to NM today by 1.6 miles. Eventually I will get there.
Ha, ha… that’s the spirit. Little by little and you will arrive.
