(Tres Piedras NM)
These rock formations provide a name for the town. Rising above the tree-line, they make quite an impression. They’re a popular challenge for hikers that come from far away to make the ascent.

After several visits to this area, I finally decided to make the attempt. I had heard it was pretty steep, and with slick-rock that was treacherous when wet; and it was monsoon season.

About a third of the way around the formation, there was a slope that led up into the rocks. It was not as difficult as I had heard. A little rock crawling, and a few dead-end paths later, I made it most of the way up.

Although I didn’t make it to the very top, I got pretty close. The last part would have been risking a fall. The view from up there was nice. So, it turned out to be a decent hike.
