(nr Las Vegas NV)
In the desert west of Vegas, is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Another place with lots of red rocks to see. It was on my way, so decided to check it out.
It has a fantastic Visitor Center, with a large parking lot and RV spaces. They have inside and outside displays about the area and the preservation mission. You could spend a good deal of time there.
A 13 mile one way driving tour takes you past many interesting rock formations. The speed limit is 35MPH; but, there are many places where you shouldn’t do more than 15. Along the way there are views with parking areas and restrooms. And, most stops have a trail or two to explore; there are 19 listed.
The park claims to be one of the top five rock climbing destinations in the country. Those locations are in the canyons and mountainous areas.
I went through the Visitor Center and drove the Scenic road. BTW, you can rent scooters or bikes to ride it. I spent a little over an hour stopping at a few of the viewpoints. $7 per day, but it was free with the Senior Pass.
