(Lake City to Horca CO)
I spent the summer in the San Juan Moutains of southern Colorado. Many places were visited briefly; yet I didn’t have enough to say about each. So, this post shows photos of some spots that I thought were interesting.
Going south from Lake City, then turning onto Upper Lake Fork Rd, took me past Lake San Cristóbal. This view was taken from a pullout on the main highway. Just north of downtown Creede the road entered, what I believe was Willow Creek Canyon, where tall cliffs arose on both sides.
Along Hwy-149 there was a pullout with a view toward the headwaters of the Río Grande. And, when looking for South Clear Creek Falls, down a gravel road, I parked at the beginning of the Brown Lakes area.
A short ways from my boondock camp were views of Bristol Head, South Clear Creek found while searching for South Clear Creek Falls (but in the wrong location), and a cliff seen from behind my camp.
Another pullout, when going over Wolf Creek Pass, had great views southward toward the San Juan River. And finally, further south was a fantistic view of the Conejos River Canyon. My time in the San Juan Mountains included these wonderful scenes, as well as pleasant weather. Hard to beat!
Camp: Several Forest CGs and boondocks
Scene: Mountains, canyons, cliffs, creek, lake
