(Tres Piedras NM)
Just west of town was a large rock formation often climbed by the daring few. A big sign warns of danger. The road in goes through tall pine trees with barely enough room to manuever. Free camping sites with picnic tables and fireplaces were in the woods.
I had camped there in the past, and knew it was a good spot for small rigs and tents. This time, looking out my window, I noticed all the smaller rocks scattered around in the woods. Wow! How did I miss them before?
If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I love rocks of all shapes and sizes. Big, small, rough or smooth, textured and colored, they’re a wonder to see. So, I grabbed the camera and out I went to get a closer look.
There were many more rocks in the woods than I thought. These photos are just some of the larger rock piles. I liked this camp the last time I was here, and now it’s even better.

Scene: Rock formations
Thanks for another great tour in the forest.
Glad you liked it, Barney.
We always blast through Tres Piedras on the way to somewhere else. I guess next time we’ll have to stop and smell the rocks. Thanks for the tip!
If you don’t want to chance going through the pines, you could park by the tank and walk in. Worth a stop if you like rock formations.
